Week 8- Science Methods II
What question are we investigating?
For the seventh week of Science Methods II, we would begin to look at different presentations from peers that showed common misconceptions around how the solar system works. This would be continued by having Ted continue this discussion and help everyone to know about this information.
What did we do in lab to investigate this question?
The teacher would start out by allowing everyone to pick which group would want to present their information over the solar system. This would allow me to listen and engage in the questions that the peers within the presentation showed. That also would allow me to learn more about some misconceptions I had or others within the class period had. This would allow me to learn about how the information about the solar systems that are more accurate to teach students in the future. An example of this can be the differences between the Big Bang and the Origin of the Earth. It would allow me to see how the Big Bang didn’t create Earth and it’s important to recognize when thinking about the history of the solar system. Another interesting fact that I liked that was learnt in the class period was about stars and how everything is made up with star dust which means that everyone is a star. This would be continued for the whole class period with Ted.
What did we figure out?
Another important part would be in the lecture on Thursday where we again talked about the different science concepts that were shown by peers presenting this information. This would allow me to get a better understanding of these science concepts and know more about this information. This would be done through going through each science concept that was presented with peers within the Tuesday class period. This would allow me to see how some of the science concepts in the presentation connected with each other. That would allow me to visually see a timeline over these different science concepts that were presented about. An interesting fact that I learnt in this class period would be nuclear fusion and how stars are made up to Iron on the periodic table of elements. This is because it can only be that hard for the stars and the other elements can’t be used for it.
What are new or remaining questions after the investigation?
This lab and discussion taught me more about the solar system. It also would allow me to talk about misconceptions that are shown within the solar system and get a better understanding of these new science concepts. Lastly, this new information would allow me to get a better visual idea over how the solar system’s history was like.
