Week 9- Birds

Image
What question are we investigating? For the ninth week of Science Methods I, we would look at the questions: “What makes a bird a bird” and “Where do organisms get their traits?”. We would firstly individually do the Habitat Probe and pick which answer was the best in our personal opinion. Then we would talk in small groups over our answers and eventually talk as a whole group about the different answers. We also would do a card sorting activity in small groups and watch two videos about birds. This would allow us to be able to answer the driving question for this week.  What did we do in lab to investigate this question? The teacher started by asking everyone to do the Habitat Probe and saying it would help us remember what we talked about before spring break. That would allow us to talk in small groups about the answers and evidence for it. We eventually came up with a final answer and my small group would pick that divos would die. We also created evidence for this answer and th...

Week 8- Rocket Pocket Mice

What question are we investigating? For the eighth week of Science Methods I, we would look at the questions: “How do organisms get their traits'' and “Why do organisms have so many similarities, and yet so many differences”. We did this through talking in small groups about how an organism gets a specific trait and talking in the whole group to see what everyone thought about it. We also would do an activity with a rock pocket mouse to get a clearer understanding of how something is a trait and how they can be similar yet different in ways like the gene make-up.  What did we do in lab to investigate this question? The teacher started this lab by asking everyone to pick a starburst to have the small groups different compared to how it usually is like. That would allow us to start by introducing ourselves to the new group members in small groups for the day. Firstly, the teacher would ask us to individually write down what we thought made something get a specific trait...

Week 7- Ecosystem

Image
What question are we investigating? For the seventh week of Science Methods I, we would look at the questions: “How do living things interact with their environment, “How are things in our world interrelated, and “Where does living stuff come from and where does it go?”.  We did this through continuing to look at making a 2D model on ecosystems and talking about the different concepts that are able to live in it. We also would do an activity to look how the processes get less to live by looking at the plants, herbivores, and carnivorous food resources.  What did we do in lab to investigate this question? The teacher started this lab by asking the small groups to get their owl pellet containers so we could discuss the findings as a whole group. This would allow everyone to see the different questions that you could create for a lesson for elementary students in a future classroom. After this she would ask everyone to get out their 2D models on ecosystems and this ...
